Walking and wildlife spotting on the Veluwe near Voorthuizen and Putten
Voorthuizen and Putten are located in the heart of the Veluwe and together form a wonderful area for walking in nature. In the surrounding area you will find many walking routes on the Veluwe, ranging from short forest walks to longer hikes across heathlands and sand dunes.
While walking on the Veluwe, there is a good chance to go wildlife spotting. You may encounter roe deer, red deer, wild boar and various bird species. Especially in the early morning or around dusk, nature is at its most beautiful and wildlife is most active.
In addition to well-known nature reserves, there are also quiet and less crowded forests nearby, such as the Johannabos in Putten. This peaceful forest is perfect for a relaxed walk, also suitable for families with children.
For our guests, a folder with walking routes is available in the chalet. It includes mapped-out walking routes around Voorthuizen and Putten, along with tips for wildlife spotting on the Veluwe. This way, you can head out straight away and discover a different part of nature each day.
Shopping in Voorthuizen and nearby towns
For shopping on the Veluwe, Voorthuizen and Putten are both nice options. Voorthuizen has a small and charming town center with shops and cafés. Putten offers a larger shopping area and hosts a weekly market on Wednesdays.
For a wider range of shops, the cities of Apeldoorn and Amersfoort are just a short drive away.
Cycling on the Veluwe
The area around Voorthuizen and Putten is perfect for cycling on the Veluwe. From the park, you can cycle straight through forests, heathlands and rural landscapes.
Bicycles can be rented on the park, ideal if you do not bring your own. In the chalet, you will find a folder with cycling routes, featuring beautiful rides in the surrounding area. This makes it easy to head out and explore a different route each day.

During the summer months, the Maisdoolhof Voorthuizen is a fun activity for families with children. This corn maze at a farm in Voorthuizen also features a playground, making it an enjoyable and active day out during your stay on the Veluwe.
Fishing at Park De IJsvogel
At Park De Ijsvogel there are several ponds where you can fish. A lovely place to enjoy the peace and the water during your stay. Please check with the park about the applicable fishing rules and whether a fishing permit is required, as this may differ per pond.
Fishing in Voorthuizen
In and around Voorthuizen there are various waters where recreational fishing is possible. In most cases in the Netherlands, a VISpas is required. Always check the local regulations in advance so you can fish in a relaxed way without surprises.
Paid Fishing in Putten
In Putten you will find Visvijvers De Berenkuil, a popular location for paid fishing in the Veluwe area. Here you can enjoy trout fishing and carp fishing, among others. The big advantage is that you do not need a VISpas, as you pay on site.
At De Berenkuil it is also possible to rent fishing rods, which is ideal if you did not bring your own equipment or if you want to try fishing for the first time. A fun and accessible outing for both beginners and experienced anglers.

Fishing is especially beautiful early in the morning or at the end of the day, when it is quiet and nature is at its best.
Climbing Park Garderen
A short distance from the chalet you will find Klimbos Garderen, an active and adventurous outing in the middle of the Veluwe forests. The climbing park offers several courses at different heights and difficulty levels, suitable for both children and adults.

Zoo
From our chalet in Voorthuizen, several zoos are easily accessible for a fun day out. Visit Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, explore free-roaming monkeys at Apenheul in Apeldoorn, or enjoy a day at Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen. Perfect family outings during your stay on the Veluwe.
The Most Beautiful Places for Sunset
Around Voorthuizen you will find beautiful spots to enjoy the sunset. The open sand dunes of Kootwijkerzand offer wide views, while Ginkelse Heide adds extra colour in late summer. For peace and quiet, Houtdorperveld is a wonderful place. In Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe you can also enjoy impressive sunsets at various open areas.
The best moment is usually 20 to 30 minutes before sunset, when the light softens and nature slowly settles into the evening. Perfect to combine with an evening walk or bike ride.

About us – The story behind Heerlijk Chalet
Hi, I’m Gerda. Together with my husband Omer and our three children, we live in Rotterdam, just over an hour from the Veluwe. As a family, we love spending time in nature. Stepping away from the busy city, breathing fresh air, walking through the forest and simply enjoying time together.
What started with one special place surrounded by greenery grew into two chalets that we care for with love and attention. Not as distant landlords, but as involved owners who truly want our guests to feel welcome and at home.

Wij hebben genoten van het huisje. Het is er gezellig, liefdevol en met aandacht ingericht. Op de foto’s lijkt de keuken misschien klein, maar hij is van alle gemakken voorzien. De woonkamer is knus en biedt een mooie speelruimte voor de kinderen. Zou er zeker weer eens komen!
Helemaal bij gekomen van ons weekendje weg. Het nabijgelegen meer is fantastisch voor een wandeling. De open haard maakt het ook extra lekker om binnen te zitten. Ruime slaapkamers en verder helemaal in orde!
Modern, ruim en netjes. Slaapkamers en badkamer waren goed schoongemaakt. Werd ook goed ontvangen door de gastheer. Verblijf als zeer prettig ervaren.
Top huis! Goed geholpen door de gastheer bij aankomst. De ligging is werkelijk perfect. Met de auto ben je zo in de stad. Daarna kan je lekker bijkomen in de serre. Er wordt ook aan het milieu gedacht(afvalscheiding, energie- en waterverbruik). Een aanrader!
Mooi huis tussen de weilanden. Wij zijn wandelliefhebbers dus waren de hele dag op pad. Zelfs van het keukentje gebruik gemaakt voor het ontbijt en kwam eigenlijk niks te kort.
Wat een prachtig huis! Wij hebben ons enorm vermaakt in de grote tuin. De verhuurders hebben ons goed geholpen en waren altijd in de buurt als we ze nodig hadden. De ligging is super mooi. Overdag huppelen er konijnen en ’s nachts een egeltje gezien. Absolute aanrader!
Goed huis. Mooi afwisselend landschap en heel rustig gelegen. Vriendelijke mensen en heerlijk knusse ruimte, met zorg ingericht. Goede houtkachel, lekker bed.
Deze accommodatie is schoon en ruim opgezet. De kamers zijn gezellig en de bedden zijn heel goed. Fijne omgeving. Wandelen, fietsen, watersport etc, de mogelijkheden zijn enorm. Wat bijzonder opvalt is de buitenruimte met prachtige tuin, met BBQ en gezellige zithoekjes met vuurplaats.
Heerlijk rustig en landelijk. We moesten weer even wennen toen we weer thuis in de stad waren! Huisje is compleet, bedstee en tuinhuis zijn een leuke toevoeging. Genoten van de vogeltjes in de tuin.
In een woord geweldig!! De verhuurder is ontzettend behulpzaam en heeft ons goed ontvangen. Wij hebben nu al heimwee en willen weer lekker door het bos wandelen. Echt een goed onderhouden paradijsje!
